Dr Malcolm Giles

MBCHB and FRACS
Otolaryngologist, Waikato DHB, Auckland, NZ
I have worked at Waikato Hospital for 30 years, with a special interest in Otology and Hearing Loss, especially in children. My association began as a trainee in Otolaryngology, when I studied the prevalence of  ear disease and hearing loss in the Ruatoki Valley. My post fellowship training was at the Royal Infirmary in Glasgow, under the mentorship of Professor George /Browning.

During my career at Waikato Hospital, I became involved in the following combined speciality clinics:  Cleft Palate, Otoneurology, and the Hearing Loss in children clinic. I also spent all of the 30 years working in peripheral hospital clinics. I have also spent many years working as the New Zealand Society's representative on the RACS Professional Development and Standards Board. In this role I was also seconded by the College onto the Professional Development and Fellowship Services Committees.

If I had to choose highlights from my career, I would put the development of the Hearing Loss in Children Clinic first.
