Ndaru (Rani) Maharani

ENT Theatre Nurse, Waikato DHB, Hamilton, NZ
Rani is from Indonesia and immigrated to New Zealand in 2006.  Her best friend’s mother is a nurse and her example of how she cares for people inspired Rani to become a nurse. She completed her Bachelor of Nursing at Waikato Institute of Technology and graduated in 2017.

Rani’s IP placement was in the ENT theatre at Waikato Hospital. This experience was the highlight of her training and she decided then that she wanted to be a perioperative nurse.

Rani began as an RN in Waikato Hospital Operating Theatre in 2017. She spent 3 years in General Surgery. At the beginning of 2020, she requested to move to the ENT Theatre. Rani loves ENT because it is highly specialized, is developing new skills, feels part of the team, is gaining opportunities to develop professionally and especially loves all the children she gets to care for. She is looking forward to connecting with ENT nurses from other centres.

Waikato Cyber Attack
Lovely Abellana, ENT Theatre Nurse, Waikato DHB, Hamilton, NZ

“The nation’s spy agency has been scrambled in the aftermath of a crippling cyber-attack and ransom demand that has brought Waikato District Health Board services to their knees” -NZ Herald on 18th of May 2021.
“Cyber attack on Waikato DHB’s IT system won’t be fixed until the weekend”. –NZ Herald on 19th of May 2021.

You’ve read the headlines or listened to the news about Waikato DHB’s cyberattack and you probably know more about this incident than some staff who actually worked here. But let us tell you this, it wasn’t fixed even after that weekend!  Attend our presentation and we’ll be sharing with you an inside story of how it was in the perioperative complex during the cyberattack. It wasn’t easy but it was quite a journey.  It would be great to learn a thing or two on how to prevent a cyberattack. Afterall, cybercrime might become the biggest threat to every person, place, and thing in the world (Devon, 2020).
