  • Director of the St. Vincent’s otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Unit  2004-2020
  • Senior Examiner in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons from May 2018-2020
  • Assoc. Prof Lyons has been on the executive of Many International Societies including the Asia Oceania ORL Society and ASHNO ( Asian Society of Head and Neck Oncology)
  • President Elect Asia Oceania Association of ORL HNS Societies
  • Convenor 15th Asia Oceania ORLHNS Meeting Brisbane March 8-12 2023

  • Graduated MBBS University of Melbourne 1981
  • Completed ENT Surgical Training 1990 Victorian Regional Training Scheme FRACS Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.
  • Completed Fellowship in Skull Base Surgery and Head and Neck Oncology under Professor Paul Donald, UC Davis Sacramento, California 1990-1991.

Main Areas of interest:
  • Management of anterior and lateral Skull base tumours especially open and endoscopic surgery for sinonasal cancers. St. Vincent’s is a tertiary referral centre for the management of these tumours and he has been involved in the treatment of well over 300 anterior skull base malignancies. Assoc. Prof Lyons has been an invited speaker at many international forums and workshop related to Skull Base Surgery
  • Management of Parotid Malignancy particularly Metastatic SCC
  • Conservation Surgery of the Larynx
  • Sialendoscopy.
