Professor Suzanne Purdy

Head of School of Psychology, University of Auckland
Deputy Co-director Eisdell Moore Centre for Hearing and Balance Research
Professor Suzanne Purdy (Te Rarawa, NgaiTakoto) is Head of School of Psychology at the University of Auckland, Centre for Brain Research Principal Investigator, Deputy Co-director of the Eisdell Moore Centre for Hearing and Balance Research, and Chair of the International Evoked Response Audiometry Study Group. After completing her University of Auckland MSc in Psychology she trained as a clinical audiologist at University of Melbourne and worked at Auckland Hospital. Subsequently she worked as a research audiologist at National Audiology Centre before completing her PhD at the University of Iowa and then supporting development of the University of Auckland’s Audiology Masters programme. From 2000-2003 she was a Senior Research Scientist at National Acoustic Laboratories in Australia prior to joining the School of Psychology to direct establishment of the Masters programme in speech-language therapy. Her research interests span communication disorders, auditory electrophysiology and neuroimaging, hearing and neurological conditions. Current research projects include studies of ear and hearing health inequity, cognition and auditory processing disorder (APD), brain connectivity in APD, choral singing for people with neurological disorders, development of speech language therapy resources for Māori tamariki, hearing trajectories in the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Study and communication development in the Growing Up in New Zealand cohort.
